Images of Christ
Dates: From 3/22/2018 to 1/5/2019
Images of Christ is a major exhibit that will feature depictions, both two and three dimensional, of Jesus created by artists of various national and ethnic origins. Artwork will come from museum collections and private collectors. The exhibit will feature two PowerPoint slide presentations - one of Images of Christ on display in churches in Ouachita Parish, the other featuring images taken from pages of Illustrated Bibles in the Biedenharn's collections. There will be three public programs by outside scholars, and multiple presentations concerning the exhibit by Museum Director Ralph Calhoun. Special promotional packages featuring hotel accommodations, food and museum admission are available for out-of-town visitors.

Cottonland Cluster Dog Show

Super Retriever Series Super Dock

SRS Super Dock will be at the Crawfish Craze 5D Barrel Run this weekend! The Super Retriever Series features the best dog and handler teams from around the country as they compete in field and on the dock. Presented by the Monroe-West Monroe Convention and Visitors Bureau. This event will be held in conjunction with the Barrel Run. It will be an outside event taking place in the parking lot of the expo center. Top 3 of each category are invited to the SRS Crown Championship in Huntsville, Alabama November 2018.

Memorial Day Recognition Service

On Sunday, the day before Memorial Day Monday, come out to the West Monroe Convention Center for this special Memorial Day Recognition Service. This is an annual event established to Honor and Remember our Fallen Heroes. Hosted by Blue Star Mothers of NELA, Kiroli Park, and the City of West Monroe. Participants include Chief Tusquahoma chapter of DAR, BSM of Louisiana (Ruston), and various Veteran's organizations. Meghan Wood, Miss Monroe Outstanding Teen 2018 will be performing the National Anthem and God Bless America. Bad Monkey Brass Band under the direction of Keith Joyner will be playing Patriotic and Inspirational music throughout the program and after. Honored guests include Gold Star families from North Louisiana. Names from our most recent wars - Operation Enduring Freedom to present- will be read and "Tolled". (Names beginning in 2004 are complete to the best of our knowledge). 37 known Gold Stars and most recently identified former POW/MIA. Veteran PTS Victim's names will also be called out and Tolled. It's vitally important to Honor and Remember those who have given so much for us. Our list is complete to the best of our knowledge. Featured KEYNOTE SPEAKER this year is Major General Glenn Curtis, Adjutant General Of the LAANG. Special Music will be sung by Gospel Music Association Award winner MSGT Mike Freeman, USAF Retired. The West Monroe High School JROTC, will perform their touching Missing Man Table. This meaningful, patriotic program, promises to be enjoyable, interesting and informative, and of course, Memorable. Beginning Stained Glass Workshop for Adults
Dates: From 5/29/2018 to 6/1/2018
This workshop will teach the student how to build a small stained glass panel using the Louis Comfort Tiffany method. Students will learn a brief history of stained glass, pick out a pattern, learn to cut glass, put together a panel using copper foil, and solder their panel. The class will be (4) two-hour sessions, May 29 – June 1 from 5:30pm - 7:30pm. Registration includes stained glass and basic supplies. Space is limited and reservations are required. No prior experience is necessary. About the Instructor Mark Bleakley has worked in stained glass for nearly 15 years in three professional studios in Houston, TX, and Pittsburgh, PA. In 2010, he opened Bleakley Stained Glass in Vicksburg, MS, with commissions throughout the United States. Mark has been teaching stained glass classes since 2009. In 2013, he moved to Monroe, LA, where he serves as vicar of All Saints Anglican Church.

Concert #3 contains "A Certain Slant of Light" - a work for organ, percussion, and brass choir that is a finalist in the 2018 American Prize competition.

Come at 10am and wander the Bayou with the composers while ambient music rings throughout the space. Stay for the formal concert at 11am at the amphitheater that will feature works by composers from places that never have alligators within shouting distance of the musical stage!

Bulls in the Streets
Dates: 6/9/2018
Bulls in the Streets, a premier event for downtown Monroe, will bring the spirit of Spain’s Running of the Bulls to participants and spectators alike on June 9th - but with a jovial twist. Roller derby girls donning bull horns and armed with wiffle-ball bats will skate on the heels of those willing to run, crawl or walk to the one-mile finish-line. While the winner gets a trophy, the real draw for many will be the laughs and stories along the route as the roller girls "attack" runners with their bats. This thrilling fun-run event will benefit the Chennault Aviation and Military Museum and Monroe's own Roe City Rollers roller derby team. The race begins at noon, but families can line the streets for the spectacle and enjoy various activities leading up to the charge, including food trucks, live music, and bouncy houses for children. Flying Tiger brewery will act as the "bull-pen" or hub for the festivities, while serving up brews for all to enjoy. Just like the original event in San Fermin, race participants must wear a white shirt and the red bandana (received during registration) around their neck. Participation begins at only $5.00. At the $5.00 level, participants receive the screen-printed scarf worn during the race. A participant at the $15.00 level receives the scarf and an event t-shirt designed by artist Jason Byron Nelson. Children 10 years old and under are free and must use the sidewalk. Registration begins at 11:00 a.m. in front of Flying Tiger Brewery located at 506 N. 2nd Street in Monroe.

Landry Vineyards Concert - Smackwater

Roe City Rollers vs. Mobile Derby Darlings
Dates: 6/16/2018
Roe City Rollers is Monroe's original roller derby league. Est. 2011. Roller Derby is a contact sport played by two teams of five members roller skating in the same direction around a track. Game play consists of a series of short matchups ("jams") in which both teams designate a scoring player (the "jammer") who scores points by lapping members of the opposing team. The teams attempt to assist their own jammer while blocking the opposing jammer—in effect, playing both offense and defense simultaneously.
