Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day

National recognition day honoring Vietnam Veterans & offering the “welcome home” many never received. Visitors can show appreciation to veterans & learn about the troops' brave sacrifices. Veterans encouraged to share stories. March 30, 1973, our troops withdrew from Vietnam. Unlike past wars, there were no parades of honor. America’s Vietnam Veterans came home to silence & denigration for serving their country during a controversial war. 58,000 lives lost from U.S. Armed Forces & over 300,000 wounded. Communities across the U.S. participate to show veterans unified gratitude.

Twin City Jazz Final Home Game

Painting in the Park

All ages are welcome! We have a variety of step-by-step paintings available to choose from, along with canvases, ceramics, and large wood cut-outs! (You can look through our photos to see some of the step-by-step paintings available.) Everything you need to create a masterpiece is provided. Only $10 per person for small canvases and ceramics. Larger canvases available for $15 and $20 wood cut-outs (crosses, mason jars, pelicans, & coffee mugs.) Bring a friend!

FREE Children's Drop-In Activity
Dates: 4/1/2017
Offered the first Saturday of every month, these free activities are for children of all ages. Drop by the museum any time between 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. on the scheduled day. Children will work on an art project that relates either through subject matter, medium, or technique, to the exhibition currently on display. Please note if the first of the month falls on a holiday or museum installation day the event will be rescheduled. Lea Joyner UMC YOUTH - Drive or Walk Thru Passion Play

The Sunday and Monday night before Easter (April 9 and 10), you will not want to miss Lea Joyner UMC YOUTH's FREE LIVE OUTDOOR unique telling of the last days of Christ. 4 separate scenes will be set-up out side the church (4390 Old Sterlington Rd - Monroe - located behind St. Francis North) to allow for Drive or Walk Thru of this Passion Play. The scenes are set-up to be shown simultaneously - 15 mins to view all. The first show starts at 7 pm each night, a new show starts every 3 minutes, the last show starts at 9 pm each night, come anytime in between to Experience the Last Days of Christ! This is a pet friendly event - we encourage all to bring along the furry family members.

Beginning Calligraphy Workshop for Adults
Dates: From 4/10/2017 to 4/12/2017
Calligraphy is the art of beautiful writing. Taught by Lucinda Hickey, this workshop will provide you with the skills a beginner needs to master calligraphy. You will learn the alphabet in Italic font, proper spacing for writing text, and get a primer on the history of calligraphy, as well as fonts more difficult than Italics. This class will be built around a Speedball 3.5 chisel point marker, but you will have an opportunity to try your hand at a fountain pen on the final day. The museum provides all supplies including two calligraphy markers to take home. The workshop will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 pm on April 10th through 12th. It will cost $35 for members and $50 for non-members.

2017 Biedenharn Garden Public Plant Sale

The Public Plant Sale features hard to find specimens from Treesearch Nursery in Houston, plants from the Louisiana Tech greenhouses and offspring from plants in grounds of the Biedenharn. The Monroe Garden Study league will be offering Tulips and Caladium bulbs. Amy Weeks, a local beekeeper will offer honey and other bee-related. To top it off, you can purchase a variety of herbal products from Symposium speaker Jim Long.The garden and Bible Museum are open free of charge from 8:30 -1:00 the day of the plant sale.

OPSO Top Gun Steel Challenge

Shooters compete in 5 stages-- Five to Go, Smoke & Hope, Speed Option, Roundabout, and a Mystery Stage. Registration fee includes a meal. This event is a fundraiser for Two Penny Missions.
