Shared Earth: The Ancient Mounds Project at the Masur Museum
Dates: From 10/29/2014 to 2/14/2015
This exhibition features photographs by Jenny Ellerbe. It deals with the landscape of Northeast Louisiana as a cultural object whose layers heap one on top of another. Shared Earth: The Ancient Mounds Project exhibition is collaboration between the Poverty Point Station Archaeology Program and the Masur Museum of Art. It will feature fine art photography and archaeological artifacts. Free lectures and educational activities will take place at the Masur and Poverty Point State Historic Site during the exhibition.

Whispering Pines at the Masur Museum

Birney Imes is a renowned American photographer and the Masur Museum of Art is proud to exhibit Whispering Pines. Whispering Pines is a series of photographs documenting the life and times of Blume Triplett, the late proprietor of Whispering Pines, a roadside bar and restaurant in Crawford, Mississippi.

The Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall

Chennault Museum presents Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall Nov. 6-11 The Chennault Aviation & Military Museum is honored to bring to the Ark-La-Miss the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall Nov. 6-11. The public is invited to view the Wall, which will be open 24 hours a day. The Museum will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Wall area will be lighted and have 24-hour security. There is no entrance fee. The Traveling Wall is 3/5 the size of the memorial in Washington, D.C. It is 6 feet in height and 300 feet in length and contains 58,272 names of military members who died in the Vietnam War.

Holiday Paper Workshop
Dates: 11/8/2014
At the Holiday Paper Workshop with artist Lisa Quails, Students will make cards, envelopes and paper ornaments using papers that they have designed with mixed-media techniques. To create surface designs on the papers students will use encaustic media, gelatin plates, silk screens and stencils. Glitters and collage materials can be used to embellish the surface designs. This class is for high school students and adults. All materials will be provided.

Art Battle at Downtown Art Crawl

The Masur Museum of Art and the Twin City Art Foundation will present an Art Battle on October 2 at the Downtown Art Crawl. Five teams of artists will compete to create an original work of art in one hour in front of a live audience! The public will choose the winning team by depositing tips into their favorite team’s tip jar. This fun and friendly competition will provide a great opportunity to see art being made live! Competing teams will include art students from Grambling University, the University of Louisiana at Monroe, and Louisiana Tech, as well as artists from the Downtown Arts Alliance and a Masur Museum team led by local artist Vitus Shell. The battle will take place from 5:30 - 6:30. Voting will take place from 5:30 - 7:00, at which time the winner will be announced!
