Shared Earth: The Ancient Mounds Project at the Masur Museum
Dates: From 10/29/2014 to 2/14/2015
This exhibition features photographs by Jenny Ellerbe. It deals with the landscape of Northeast Louisiana as a cultural object whose layers heap one on top of another. Shared Earth: The Ancient Mounds Project exhibition is collaboration between the Poverty Point Station Archaeology Program and the Masur Museum of Art. It will feature fine art photography and archaeological artifacts. Free lectures and educational activities will take place at the Masur and Poverty Point State Historic Site during the exhibition.

Whispering Pines at the Masur Museum

Birney Imes is a renowned American photographer and the Masur Museum of Art is proud to exhibit Whispering Pines. Whispering Pines is a series of photographs documenting the life and times of Blume Triplett, the late proprietor of Whispering Pines, a roadside bar and restaurant in Crawford, Mississippi.

Freedom Trees

Wagon Rides

The holiday lighting in Monroe and West Monroe is growing brighter each year. We are offering our residents the opportunity to take a special ride through our most illuminated areas of Christmas lighting in the Landry wagon, which holds approximately 30 people. Wagon provided by Landry Vineyards. The tour will begin at Commerce and Wood Streets of West Monroe, travel down Trenton to Wood Street, then N Riverfront Street, over the Endom Bridge, driving straight on Desiard Street turning onto S 6th Street and on to the Monroe Civic Center. We will return via Calypso Street to S Grand, driving by the NE Children’s Museum on Walnut and returning via Louisville Avenue and the Lea Joiner Bridge (see map). Rides will begin on Friday, November 28 and Saturday, November 29 evening and will happen every Friday/Saturday until Christmas. The rides will begin at 5pm and will end at 9pm, with each trip taking about 30 minutes. We are looking to start a new trip every 40 minutes which should allow 6 trips per night. The schedule currently is for the following dates: Friday/Saturday – November 28/29 Friday/Saturday – December 5/6 (Outgoing route changed to Lea Joiner Bridge due to fireworks on Endom) Friday/Saturday – December 12/13 Friday/Saturday – December 19/20 Children are required to be accompanied by an adult.

Guided Canoe Trip at Black Bayou Lake

Kansas City Southern Holiday Express

The KCS Holiday Express will make a stop in Downtown Monroe. Before the train arrives, kids’ activities will start at 2:00pm. Meet and greets with characters such as a magician, Ninja Turtles, and two of the Frozen characters will be available from 3:00pm-5:00pm! There will also be refreshments and food available for purchase. Then, the train will arrive at 4:00pm! Don’t miss this festive six car train featuring the smiling tank car “Rudy;” a flatcar carrying Santa’s sleigh, reindeer, and a miniature village; a ginger bread boxcar; an elves’ workshop; the reindeer stable; and a little red caboose. Guests are invited to tour the train and visit with Santa! At dark, "The Polar Express" will be showing outdoors. This event will be great for the whole family!

When counting the days to Christmas, a visit to the RiverMarket in Downtown Monroe is a fun experience for little ones. We will have special programs geared for children that will appeal to the whole family as well. An A Cappella Christmas

Wagon Rides
Dates: From 12/19/2014 to 12/20/2014
The holiday lighting in Monroe and West Monroe is growing brighter each year. We are offering our residents the opportunity to take a special ride through our most illuminated areas of Christmas lighting in the Landry wagon, which holds approximately 30 people. Wagon provided by Landry Vineyards. The tour will begin at Commerce and Wood Streets of West Monroe, travel down Trenton to Wood Street, then N Riverfront Street, over the Endom Bridge, driving straight on Desiard Street turning onto S 6th Street and on to the Monroe Civic Center. We will return via Calypso Street to S Grand, driving by the NE Children’s Museum on Walnut and returning via Louisville Avenue and the Lea Joiner Bridge (see map). Rides will begin on Friday, November 28 and Saturday, November 29 evening and will happen every Friday/Saturday until Christmas. The rides will begin at 5pm and will end at 9pm, with each trip taking about 30 minutes. We are looking to start a new trip every 40 minutes which should allow 6 trips per night. Children are required to be accompanied by an adult.
