The Cover of Life Auditions
Dates: From 8/27/2018 to 8/28/2018
Auditions will be held Sunday-Monday, August 27-28, starting at 6 pm at Strauss Theatre Center for the second production of the 2018-19 season. THE COVER OF LIFE, written by Ron Robinson, a native of Bastrop and Northeast (ULM), and a former performer on the Strauss Stage, the play had a successful off- Broadway run, has had a number of regional productions, and in March had a limited run off Broadway as a part of the Women’s History Month. Critics agreed that it was filled with charm and fun, a moving story about realization of self-worth. The time is 1943 in Sterlington, LA; three young women married to brothers gone to war have ended up living with their husbands' mother. Henry Luce, owner of Life Magazine, hears of the situation and sends an unwilling war correspondent to do what she considers a "women's piece, " yet the assignment promises a "cover story," her first. The play calls for six women, the wives ranging in age from 19 to 25, three older women in their mid-forties, and one man aged 20. Brenda Rowan, who has directed several plays for Strauss in the past, will be director of this poignant, yet humorous, drama. She views the play as one made up of strong women. Auditions are open to all interested performers who fall within the needs of the cast. For more information, call the Strauss Theatre Center at 323-6681. Come be a part of the magic that is live theatre. Scripts are available in the theatre box office.
